Silicon Valley may be forward-looking when it comes to technology, yet it remains remarkably backward when it comes to gender. Women represent half the population, drive 70 to 80 per cent of consumer purchases, yet they remain hugely underrepresented among the technology and leadership roles of Silicon Valley. Emily Canal shares here an edited excerpt from a book by journalist Emily Chang in which Chang explores how women-inclusive hiring strategies and workplace cultures can offer tremendous payoffs in Silicon Valley and elsewhere.
