In February, Team Norway visited various parts of Spain. The delegation – including the Ambassador of Norway for Spain and the head of Innovation Norway for Spain – first went to Malaga to build relations between Norwegian companies and the Smart City cluster in Andalucia.
The tour also took in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria where meetings with various Spanish governmental institutions and Norwegian companies with business on the island were held.
The aim of the trip was to forge closer trade links between the two countries and for the Norwegian delegation to gain a better understanding what could be done to help Norwegian companies in Spain.
Team Norway, comprising Johan Vibe Ambassador of Norway for Spain, Lars Andersen Deputy Ambassador of Norway for Spain, Carmen Sanz Martínez President of the Spanish-Norwegian Chamber of Commerce, Rodrigo Ballasteros Cruz Senior Commercial Adviser Royal Norwegian Embassy in Madrid and Senior Market Adviser at Innovation Norway, and Gaute Hagerup Director Innovation Norway Madrid.
Team Norway was received on the island by President of the Canary Islands José Miguel Bravo de Laguna, Pablo Martín Carbajal and Carmen Sosa of PROEXCA, plus Alejandro Cañeque of ZEC and other key Gran Canarian dignitaries.
During their three-day tour of the island the delegation visited the port of Las Palmas where Norwegian company OTECH is enjoying great success, the Instituto Tecnologico de Canarias and the islands tech incubator facility INCUBE at Infecar.
At INCUBE the delegation learnt how one Norwegian company, intraHouse, is investing on the island. With headquarters in Alesund in Norway and a presence in Silicon Valley and now on Gran Canaria, intraHouse is a superb example of how beneficial links between Norway and Spain can be fostered.
As part of the presentation from intraHouse, the delegation learnt how Gran Canaria is becoming strategically important for many intraHouse projects including the development of cutting edge technology used by global giants like Cisco.
intraHouse also told the delegation about its consultancy venture to help other Norwegian, European and US companies establish on one of the islands by delivering everything a non-native might need to succeed on the islands from application processes, hiring the best talent, finding premises and even helping them market their products or services to their target markets.
The delegation was also treated to a demo of the latest apps the Gran Canaria team is working on including ZenShepherd and Deck2Play.
Director of intraHouse, Karen Floyd, comments: “I believe Team Norway was impressed by the wonderful facilities Gran Canaria has to offer and encouraged to hear about the success stories of Norwegian companies with a presence on the island.
“In Norway intraHouse has a long, fruitful relationship with Innovation Norway and now we are establishing strong links with Gran Canaria organisations like PROEXCA, so it was wonderful to be able to bring the two together to learn more about us.
“It was a real honour to present intraHouse to them, with a live link to our teams in different countries, showing them how we are able to work around the clock delivering mobile technology solutions to global giants like Cisco, with both Norway and Gran Canaria being crucial to our success.”
