There’s a real buzz about the HIVE Global Leaders Program

#HIVE10 San Francisco, November 2016

Last month I took part in #HIVE10 – the tenth edition of the HIVE Global Leaders Program – in San Francisco, with 104 other participants from a total of 47 countries and a team of about 30 HIVE staff, including many volunteers, and it was awesome! I could go on about it for a very long time, but I promise not to, so this won't take you long to read.

I was extremely fortunate to already be in San Francisco when I was accepted by HIVE to participate in one of their programs, which to me seemed to strike a balance between a retreat and a business conference. And it did. It was a truly memorable experience.

Co-founded in 2014 by successful entrepreneur Ryan Allis, the HIVE mission is to build a global community of leaders and innovators working together on creating a better world. And the HIVE vision is of a happy, healthy and sustainable world in which everyone can pursue their dreams. Sounds perfect!

The three objectives of HIVE for its Global Leaders Program are to help participants gain clarity on why they're alive, give them confidence to make their dreams come true and create a lifelong community that supports its HIVErs.

HIVE asks some deep, probing questions of its leaders including 'what makes you come alive?', 'how can you help solve humanity's grand challenges?', 'how can you help improve the lives of 7.5 billion people?", 'how will you use your one wild and precious life?'.

These questions definitely make people reflect on their life purpose and how to be a better person and leader. And for those of us who aren't yet living our true purpose, the program helps us'redesign' our lives, get clear on our life purpose, make a plan, come up with a life purpose statement, and then take action to make it happen.

It's a pretty intense and long few days. There's a lot happening, a lot of realizations taking place amongst the HIVErs and there's a lot to take in. It's like, for once, you've really got the time, head and heart space – and the support – to take a long, hard look at your life and see if you're where you want to be and doing what you really want to be doing. And if you're not, it's time to stop wasting time and resign your life. And if you are already in the flow of your life's purpose, it's time to ramp it up a few notches and accelerate progress, if that's what you want.

Whilst we were redesigning our lives there was some concrete 'improve your business' content as we delved deep into other topics with top quality speakers including Tom Chi of GoogleX who covered rapid prototyping; Gordon Starr who talked about integrity in leadership; and, Ryan who shared practical techniques for scaling a business from $10 million to $50 million, a topic he knows a lot about. Top quality speakers.

We even danced, played, created art, meditated, partied and feasted with great and plentiful offerings of food and drink with lots love and laughter flowing freely. There was a real sense of community, belonging and trust that was established very quickly.

HIVE is what I expected, and much more. I was looking for something that brings to together business and consciousness, and that's what I found. And it was much more in the sense of the depth and quality of the contacts made and the sense of belonging to a new community, a new and growing family where everyone agrees on the vision and mission.

The quality of everything at #HIVE10 was superb and I was really impressed with my fellow HIVErs and the difference they are making and striving to make in the world. I heard about so many worthwhile projects, all aimed at making the world an even better place in some way, shape or form, across the fields of education, coaching, healthcare, food growing, investing, waste management, clean energy, technology and much more, from people in their twenties to their sixties. Inspirational!

If you get the chance to attend HIVE, jump at it! You'll learn more about yourself, you'll grow professionally and personally, and you'll make some great contacts and new friends. You might not feel comfortable with everything, but as we know, we grow the most when we're outside our comfort zones.

For many people the HIVE Global Leaders Program is a life changing experience and quite a few attendees end up changing direction to pursue their true purpose within a few months of having attended the program.

Lastly, I'd like to give huge thanks and shout out to the awesome HIVE team and everyone I met at #HIVE10. It was a very enriching experience and I'm looking forward to deepening the connection with you.
